5th Grade Raises Money Throughout November

Throughout November, 5th grade students have been learning about and honoring our nation’s heroes by collecting change to be donated to Dark Horse Lodge (Veteran’s Retreat in Tennessee) on their behalf.  We also walked a collective 100 miles (one mile per student) for Trek for Troops on Friday, November 10th! On Friday the 17th, 10 students took the coin collection to Byron Bank to be counted, and we are very happy to report that $890.96 was collected and will be forwarded to Gretchen Catherwood, mother of 19-year-old Lance Corporal Alec Catherwood (Byron graduate) who was killed in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan. Additionally, Byron Bank has offered to match our donation as well! We are very proud of our students, and we can’t wait to see how this donation helps to enhance what is already taking place at Darkhorse Lodge. Below is a link to their website in case you are curious about this  beautiful Veterans’ Retreat. You can also visit DarkhorseLodge.com.
